Marvel Comics is in the midst of its 80th anniversary year. From humble beginnings, the iconic storytelling brand has slowly been building a cross-cultural legacy that’s spread into everything from film, television, video games, music and sneakers. All of that will come to a head at this week’s New York ComicCon when Marvel, adidas and Foot Locker will be dropping a special edition two-pack of AM4‘s to celebrate the monumental occasion. Designed by Marvel Comics’ very own Joe Quesada, the duo defers from the common one-character-per-sneaker approach, instead opting for two distinctly different options. The first pair, the AM4 “Marvel 80 Vol. 1,” honors the brand, which needs no characters to add clout. The logo in itself is statement enough. It arrives with a perspective point at the toe, as if the logo is zooming past, and it is placed upon a blue-to-red gradient primeknit upper, white BOOST midsole, and black rubber outsole. The more audacious “AM4 Marvel 80 Vol. 2” arrives with the same sole unit, but the similarities start and end there. Quesada heads a little closer to home with this one, opting for an all-over graphic that draws inspo from comic series stamps typically found in the top left corner of the cover.

Marvel Stans in NYC for ComicCon can scoop at an exclusive drop at Foot Locker’s 34th St. Herald Square location on October 4th, with a wider online release set for a later date.
