Talk about a Flashback Friday.
Just last week we showcased a first look at an unreleased Air Jordan 5 “Bel-Air” sample, but it all seems a little too-well timed now, with the surfacing of this “Fresh Prince” pack, which pays homage to the cult 90s TV series.
The pack included hoodies and tees with Big Willie’s mug all over them, but it’s the shoes that steal the show. And while at first glance these may seem like an OG retro of the Grape Air Jordan 5— yes, with Nike Air — seen in the shows initial promotional material and even a few early episodes, there are a few tweaks that make these unique to the TV series.
It includes “West Philadelphia” embossed under the tongue, Fresh Prince-inspired insoles and no laces. But it’s the sealed laced holes which make these unique. It’s as if Jordan Brand want you to rock them like a young Will Smith.
And on a side note, it was rumored earlier this year that Jordan Brand were on the verge of signing someone HUGE this year. Could it be? Could Will Smith be reuniting his love with Jordan Brand almost 3o years after the fact? We’ll have to wait on that one — but it would be hella dope.
As for a release date, the Air Jordan 5 NRG “Fresh Prince” is due on September 25th at select Jordan Brand retailers and Nike.com for $190.
