In our "Shocktober" sneaker concept series, we're taking a step away from the supernatural and into the chillingly mundane with the Nike SB Dunk Low "Patrick Bateman," an homage to the eerily composed protagonist of Brett Easton Ellis's 'American Psycho'—a character who became even more infamous thanks to Christian Bale's unsettling portrayal in 2000.

Why not choose a notorious slasher, you might request? There’s something profoundly disturbing about Bateman—a murderous psychopath who doesn’t lurk in shadows but walks openly in society, a handsome face among the elite, a monster in a businessman's suit. And we had some time since we couldn’t get a reservation at Dorsia.

The sneaker design draws directly from some of the film’s most iconic scenes. The translucent Swoosh, splattered with a crimson reminiscent of the blood in Bateman’s gruesome escapades, is a clear nod to his infamous clear raincoat, an outfit choice as practical as it was horrifying during the Paul Allen (played by Jared Leto) apartment scene. The rest of the shoe mirrors Bateman's high-end, tailored wardrobe, featuring fine, debossed pinstripe details on the suede panels that speak to his outward façade of refinement and control.

But it's on the inside that fans of the film will find true Easter eggs, details known only to those who have peered more than once into Bateman's dark world. These subtle elements intertwine Bateman's polished exterior with his sinister interior, forging a contrast that is as captivating as it is unsettling.

As our Shocktober series continues, we're left reflecting on the eerie tranquility of Patrick Bateman, a reminder that sometimes, the scariest monsters are the ones living in plain sight, sharing our restaurants, walking our streets, or even crafting our favorite sneakers.

Impressive. Very nice. But now, let's see Paul Allen’s Dunk.
