Nike’s latest in-house special collection is the Athletic Dept. series, applying new details to classic silhouettes. This week, a second pair of the Air Max 1 has joined the project, in a collegiate ‘Midnight Navy’ color scheme.
Over the past few years, Nike has ramped up their special projects, releasing regular themed releases that unite some of their classic and new sneakers with similar color palettes. This season, the ‘Athletic Dept.’ series has taken over, featuring fresh and simple colorways of the Dunk Low, Air Force, and Air Max 1. The latter is one of the latest shoes to join the project, and this week has added a second color scheme to its ranks. Dressed in a more collegiate color scheme compared to the first pair in black and gold, this look begins with a white mesh base and a mix of off-white shades for the midfoot overlays. ‘Midnight Navy’ blue suede makes up the mudguards and Swooshes, while branding is added in bright shades of teal. The insoles feature a revised branding, now sporting the year 1972, a nod to the year of the brand’s first release of a Nike-branded sneaker.
