With the Fresh Images Surface of 's Air Jordan 1 Low Voodoo’s 30th anniversary now past the halfway point, one would begin to think that the brand had all but forgotten about the celebration, with releases of the Tinker Hatfield-designed model few and far between. But with a back-end loaded up with drops including the OG “Cardinal”, the fan-favorite “Citrus” colorway, and the obscure “Afrobeats” edition, it’s evident that the party is only getting started. Bephie’s Beauty Supply of Los Angeles, a beauty supply owned by Beth “Bephie Gibbs” — wife of Union LA founder Chris Gibbs — has quite literally taken the model to new heights, with a utilitarian design overhaul that incorporates elements of Tinker’s concurrent designs at Nike ACG. With the silhouette often compared to the Huarache, and to a lesser extent, the Mowabb, BBS has seemingly taken this on board as it tacks on tonal earthy tans, Mowabb-inspired toe caps, and Huarache-like rear clips. The comparisons don’t stop there, though, with hollowed-out midfoot panels reminiscent of the Huarache design, and high-rise inner booties and forefoot mini Swooshes akin to the Mo. though there still is a Neoprene inner bootie, its appearance is obstructed by an oversized mesh — complete with surplus-inspired Jumpman spray paint logos, while toggle lacing systems and added pulls add to the outdoor-inspired elements. You’ll also note that Bephie has tinkered (pun intended) with the layering for the overlays, pulling some above the other in almost reverse order.
